Pleuropneumonia is a type of lung disease that involves both the lung parenchyma and the pleura that surround it. It is characterized by the inflammation of the lungs and the pleura, often due to an infection.

Pleuropneumonia is typically caused by a bacterial infection, most commonly by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae. Other bacteria that can cause pleuropneumonia include Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Legionella pneumophila.
