Premature

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Premature refers to any event or condition that occurs before the expected time. In the medical context, it often refers to premature birth, but can also refer to other conditions such as premature aging or premature menopause.

Premature Birth[edit | edit source]

Premature birth is a birth that takes place more than three weeks before the baby's estimated due date. In other words, a premature birth is one that occurs before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy. Premature babies, especially those born very early, often have complicated medical problems. The earlier a baby is born, the more severe these problems are likely to be.

Premature Aging[edit | edit source]

Premature aging is a condition that affects the skin and internal organs. It is characterized by the rapid aging of cells, leading to the early onset of age-related diseases and conditions. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetic disorders, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices.

Premature Menopause[edit | edit source]

Premature menopause is the occurrence of menopause in a woman before the age of 40. This can occur naturally or as a result of medical treatments such as chemotherapy or surgical removal of the ovaries. Women who experience premature menopause often face additional health risks, including osteoporosis and heart disease.
