Premature thelarche
Premature Thelarche is a medical condition characterized by the early onset of breast development in girls. This condition typically occurs before the age of 8 and is often a benign and self-limiting condition. However, it can sometimes be a sign of more serious underlying conditions, such as Precocious Puberty or a Hormonal Imbalance.
Causes[edit | edit source]
The exact cause of Premature Thelarche is unknown, but it is thought to be related to increased sensitivity of the breast tissue to Estrogen. Other potential causes include exposure to environmental estrogens and certain genetic conditions.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
The primary symptom of Premature Thelarche is the early development of breast tissue. This can occur on one or both sides and is often accompanied by a small amount of fatty tissue. Other symptoms can include mild breast tenderness and rapid growth.
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Diagnosis of Premature Thelarche is typically made through a physical examination and a review of the patient's medical history. Additional tests, such as a Bone Age X-Ray or hormone tests, may be performed to rule out other conditions.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment for Premature Thelarche is typically not necessary, as the condition often resolves on its own. However, if the condition is caused by an underlying condition, treatment for that condition may be necessary.
