Presto (film)
Presto is a 2008 American computer-animated short film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was directed by Doug Sweetland in his directorial debut. It was released theatrically alongside Pixar's feature film WALL-E.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The story follows Presto DiGiotagione, a magician who performs with his rabbit, Alec Azam. Presto is known for his signature trick involving a magical hat that allows objects to pass through one hat and come out of another. However, before a performance, Presto neglects to feed Alec, leading to a series of comedic mishaps on stage as Alec tries to get a carrot from Presto. The short film is a fast-paced, slapstick comedy that pays homage to classic cartoons.
Production[edit | edit source]
Presto was directed by Doug Sweetland, who had previously worked as an animator on several Pixar films. The short film was produced by Richard Hollander, with music composed by Scot Stafford. The animation style and comedic timing were inspired by classic Warner Bros. cartoons, particularly those directed by Chuck Jones.
Release[edit | edit source]
Presto premiered on June 27, 2008, alongside WALL-E. It was well-received by audiences and critics alike for its humor, animation quality, and homage to classic cartoons. The short film was later included in the home media release of WALL-E and the Pixar Short Films Collection, Volume 2.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Presto received critical acclaim for its animation, humor, and storytelling. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 81st Academy Awards but did not win. The short film is often praised for its ability to tell a compelling and entertaining story without dialogue, relying solely on visual gags and character expressions.
