Pronto Pup
Pronto Pup is a brand of corn dog that originated in the United States. The Pronto Pup vendors at the Minnesota State Fair claim to have invented the corn dog in 1941.
History[edit | edit source]
The Pronto Pup was first introduced in the early 1940s by George and Versa Boyington of Portland, Oregon. The Boyingtons created the Pronto Pup as a convenient and easy-to-eat food for people attending the Oregon State Fair. The Pronto Pup quickly gained popularity and became a staple at state fairs across the United States.
Preparation[edit | edit source]
Pronto Pups are made by dipping a hot dog into a batter made from flour, cornmeal, and seasonings. The coated hot dog is then deep-fried until the batter is golden brown and crispy. Pronto Pups are typically served on a stick for easy eating.
Popularity[edit | edit source]
Pronto Pups are particularly popular in the Midwest, especially at the Minnesota State Fair, where they are one of the top-selling foods. In addition to state fairs, Pronto Pups can also be found at carnivals, amusement parks, and other events.
Variations[edit | edit source]
While the traditional Pronto Pup is made with a hot dog, variations exist. Some vendors offer Pronto Pups made with sausage, cheese, or other fillings. There are also vegetarian and gluten-free versions available.
