Pundri

Pundri is a city located in the Kaithal district of Haryana, India. It is one of the oldest towns in Haryana and has a rich history dating back to the Mahabharata period.

Pundri is believed to have been founded by the Pandavas, the five brothers who are the main characters in the Indian epic Mahabharata. The city is named after Pandu, the father of the Pandavas.

During the British Raj, Pundri was a part of the Punjab Province. After the Partition of India in 1947, it became a part of the newly formed state of Haryana.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Pundri is located at an average elevation of 225 meters (738 feet) above sea level. It is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river, which provides the city with a fertile soil suitable for agriculture.

The economy of Pundri is primarily based on agriculture. The main crops grown in the region include wheat, rice, sugarcane, and cotton. The city is also known for its dairy farming and poultry farming.

Pundri is known for its rich cultural heritage. The city celebrates several festivals throughout the year, including Diwali, Holi, Eid, and Navratri. The city is also known for its traditional Haryanvi folk music and dance.

Pundri is well-connected by road and rail. The city is served by the Indian Railways and has a railway station named Pundri Railway Station. The nearest airport is the Chandigarh Airport, located approximately 120 kilometers away.
