Rare Ltd. is a British video game developer and a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios. Founded in 1985 by Tim Stamper and Chris Stamper, Rare is known for its innovative and influential games across various platforms.

Rare was originally established as Ultimate Play the Game in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, before transitioning to Rare. The company initially focused on developing games for the ZX Spectrum and later moved to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
