Robert T. Davis was an American physician and politician who served as a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts. He was born on August 28, 1823, in County Down, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1831. They settled in Providence, Rhode Island.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Davis attended the public schools in Providence and later graduated from Brown University in 1847. He studied medicine at the Harvard Medical School and graduated in 1850. He began practicing medicine in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Medical Career[edit | edit source]

Davis was a prominent physician in Fall River and was involved in various medical organizations. He was a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and served as its president. He was also a member of the American Medical Association.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Davis was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth and Forty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1877 – March 3, 1881). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1880. During his tenure, he served on several committees, including the Committee on Commerce.

Later Life and Death[edit | edit source]

After leaving Congress, Davis resumed his medical practice in Fall River. He continued to be active in the medical community until his death on October 29, 1906. He was interred in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.
