== Rocio ==

Rocio is a genus of cichlid fish native to Central America. The genus was established in 2007 by Sven O. Kullander and Donald C. Taphorn to accommodate species previously included in the genus Cichlasoma. The name Rocio is derived from the Spanish word for "dew," referring to the iridescent spots found on the fish.

Species[edit | edit source]

The genus Rocio includes the following species:

Habitat[edit | edit source]

Species of the genus Rocio are typically found in freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, and streams. They are native to regions in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. These fish prefer habitats with slow-moving or standing water and are often found in areas with abundant vegetation.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Rocio species are known for their territorial behavior, especially during the breeding season. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of food sources including invertebrates, plant matter, and small fish. The Jack Dempsey, in particular, is popular in the aquarium trade due to its striking appearance and relatively hardy nature.

Conservation[edit | edit source]

The conservation status of Rocio species varies. While some species are common and widespread, others may face threats from habitat destruction and pollution. Efforts to preserve their natural habitats are crucial for their continued survival.
