Sam Posey (born May 26, 1944) is an American former racing driver and broadcast commentator. He is known for his versatility in various forms of motorsport and his contributions to sports broadcasting.

Sam Posey was born in New York City, New York. He developed an interest in racing at a young age and pursued his passion through various racing disciplines.

Posey began his professional racing career in the 1960s. He competed in a wide range of racing series, including Formula One, IndyCar, and sports car racing.

Formula One[edit | edit source]

Posey made his Formula One debut in 1971, driving for the Surtees team. He participated in two Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on March 14, 1971. Although he did not score any championship points, his participation in the series marked him as one of the few American drivers to compete in Formula One.

In IndyCar, Posey competed in the Indianapolis 500 five times between 1969 and 1974. His best finish was 5th place in the 1972 race. He also raced in other IndyCar events, showcasing his adaptability to different racing formats.

Posey found significant success in sports car racing. He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the Daytona 24 Hours. In 1971, he won the 12 Hours of Sebring driving a Ferrari 512M for the North American Racing Team.
