Samuel M. Nabrit (February 21, 1905 – December 30, 2003) was an American marine biologist and academic administrator. He was notable for being the first African American to receive a Ph.D. from Brown University and for his contributions to the field of marine biology.

Samuel M. Nabrit was born on February 21, 1905, in Macbeth, South Carolina. He attended Morehouse College, where he earned his B.S. degree. He later pursued graduate studies at Brown University, where he became the first African American to receive a Ph.D. in 1932.
Career[edit | edit source]
Nabrit began his career as a professor of biology at Morehouse College. He later joined the faculty at Texas Southern University, where he served in various administrative roles, including as the president of the university.
Contributions to Marine Biology[edit | edit source]
Nabrit's research in marine biology focused on the regeneration of fish fins. His work contributed to the understanding of cellular biology and regenerative medicine.
