Properties[edit | edit source]

Sec-Butylbenzene is a colorless liquid at room temperature with a characteristic aromatic odor. It has a boiling point of 183°C and a melting point of -89°C. It is slightly soluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and diethyl ether.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Sec-Butylbenzene is primarily used as a solvent in the chemical industry. It is also used in the manufacture of certain types of plastics and resins. In addition, it is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemical compounds.

Health Effects[edit | edit source]

Exposure to sec-butylbenzene can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. It can also cause dizziness, headache, and in severe cases, unconsciousness. Long-term exposure can lead to liver and kidney damage.

Safety[edit | edit source]

Sec-Butylbenzene is flammable and should be kept away from heat, sparks, and open flames. It should be used in a well-ventilated area and personal protective equipment should be worn when handling this chemical.
