Shandong University (SDU) is a prestigious public research university located in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, China. Established in 1901, it is one of the oldest and most comprehensive universities in China, offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

Shandong University was originally founded as the Imperial Shandong University (山东大学堂) in 1901 during the late Qing Dynasty. It was one of the earliest modern universities established in China. Over the years, the university has undergone several mergers and reorganizations, contributing to its current status as a comprehensive institution.

In 1951, Shandong University merged with the East China University, and in 2000, it merged with Shandong Medical University and Shandong University of Technology, significantly expanding its academic offerings and research capabilities.
