Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the valley and is bordered by the neighborhoods of Studio City to the east, Encino to the west, Van Nuys to the north, and Beverly Glen to the south.

Sherman Oaks was originally part of the Rancho San Francisco land grant, which was given to the Sepulveda family in 1843. The area remained largely rural until the early 20th century when the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company purchased the land and began developing it into a residential neighborhood. The neighborhood was named after Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a prominent land developer and businessman who played a key role in the development of the San Fernando Valley.
