Sir Salimullah Medical College

Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) is a government medical school in Bangladesh, located in the old part of the capital city Dhaka. It is affiliated with the University of Dhaka and operates under the jurisdiction of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The college was established in 1875 as Dhaka Medical School in the Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. It was named after Sir Khwaja Salimullah, the Nawab of Dhaka. The school was upgraded to a medical college in 1962. It was nationalized in 1972.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The campus of the college is located in Mitford, Dhaka. It includes academic buildings, a library, and student hostels. The college shares its campus with Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, which serves as the teaching hospital.

Academics[edit | edit source]

The college offers a five-year MBBS course, followed by a one-year internship. It also offers postgraduate courses in various specialties through the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS).

Many notable medical professionals and academics have graduated from Sir Salimullah Medical College. They have contributed significantly to the field of medicine in Bangladesh and abroad.
