Sisir Kumar Bose
Sisir Kumar Bose (1920–2000) was an eminent Indian freedom fighter, pediatrician, and the founder of the Netaji Research Bureau. He is best known for his role in assisting his uncle, Subhas Chandra Bose, in escaping from British surveillance in India in 1941. This event is one of the most celebrated episodes in the history of the Indian independence movement.

Sisir Kumar Bose was born in a prominent Bengali family deeply involved in the struggle for India's independence. From a young age, he was inspired by the nationalist fervor that surrounded him, particularly influenced by his uncle, Subhas Chandra Bose, a leading figure in the Indian independence movement.
Role in Indian Independence Movement[edit | edit source]
In January 1941, Sisir Kumar Bose played a pivotal role in the escape of Subhas Chandra Bose from his house in Calcutta (now Kolkata), where he was under house arrest by the British authorities. Sisir drove his uncle in a car to Gomoh, from where Subhas Chandra Bose took a train to reach Peshawar. The successful escape allowed Subhas Chandra Bose to eventually reach Germany, marking a significant phase in the Indian independence movement. This act of bravery and commitment to the cause of freedom made Sisir Kumar Bose a hero in the eyes of many Indians.
