Smögen Whisky is a Swedish whisky distillery located in Smögen, Sweden. It was founded in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, an author and whisky enthusiast, with the aim of producing high-quality, peated single malt whisky. The distillery is one of the smallest in Sweden, but it has gained international recognition for its products.
History[edit | edit source]
Smögen Whisky was established in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, who had previously written two books on whisky. The distillery was built on the west coast of Sweden, in the small fishing village of Smögen. The first spirit was distilled in 2010, and the first whisky was released in 2013.
Production[edit | edit source]
Smögen Whisky is known for its heavily peated single malt whisky. The distillery uses locally sourced barley, which is malted and peated to a high level. The whisky is matured in a variety of cask types, including American oak, sherry, and Strand casks. The distillery produces a limited amount of whisky each year, with each batch being unique.
Products[edit | edit source]
Smögen Whisky produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Smögen Single Cask, Smögen Sherry Project, and Smögen Swedish Single Malt. The distillery also produces a limited edition whisky called Primör, which is released annually.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Smögen Whisky has received positive reviews from whisky enthusiasts and critics. It has been praised for its bold, peaty flavour and high quality. The distillery's products have also won several awards at international whisky competitions.
