Sneddon Wilkinson Disease[edit | edit source]

Sneddon Wilkinson Disease is a rare dermatological condition characterized by the presence of pustular skin eruptions. It is also known as subcorneal pustular dermatosis or Subcorneal Pustular Dermatosis.

History[edit | edit source]

The disease was first described by Dr. Sneddon and Dr. Wilkinson in 1956. It is considered a rare form of pustular dermatosis and is sometimes associated with other systemic conditions.

Clinical Presentation[edit | edit source]

Patients with Sneddon Wilkinson Disease typically present with flaccid pustules that are superficial and located just beneath the stratum corneum. These pustules are often sterile and can appear on various parts of the body, including the trunk, arms, and legs.

Pathophysiology[edit | edit source]

The exact cause of Sneddon Wilkinson Disease is not well understood. It is thought to be an autoimmune condition, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own skin cells, leading to the formation of pustules.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Diagnosis is primarily clinical, supported by histopathological examination of skin biopsies. The biopsy typically shows subcorneal pustules filled with neutrophils.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment options for Sneddon Wilkinson Disease include:

  • Topical corticosteroids
  • Dapsone, which is often effective in controlling the pustular eruptions
  • Systemic corticosteroids in severe cases

Prognosis[edit | edit source]

The prognosis for Sneddon Wilkinson Disease is generally good with appropriate treatment. However, it can be a chronic condition with periods of remission and exacerbation.

Differential Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Conditions that may mimic Sneddon Wilkinson Disease include:
