From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Sohan Asali is a traditional Iranian sweet, often served during special occasions and celebrations. It is a type of confectionery that is made from honey, saffron, almond or other nuts, and butter. The name "Sohan Asali" translates to "honeyed Sohan", indicating the primary ingredient and distinguishing it from other types of Sohan.

History[edit | edit source]

The exact origins of Sohan Asali are unclear, but it is believed to have been developed in the Qajar era of Iran. It is often associated with the city of Qom, which is known for its confectionery industry and is considered the birthplace of many traditional Iranian sweets.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

The preparation of Sohan Asali involves boiling honey until it reaches a thick consistency, then adding butter and saffron. Almonds or other nuts are then added to the mixture. The mixture is stirred continuously until it becomes golden in color. It is then spread on a flat surface and allowed to cool before being cut into pieces.

Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]

Sohan Asali is often served during Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, and other festive occasions. It is also a popular gift item, often presented in decorative boxes. In addition to its role in celebrations, Sohan Asali is also used in traditional Iranian medicine due to the believed health benefits of its ingredients, particularly honey and saffron.
