Nocturnal emission

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

(Redirected from Spermatorrhoea)

A nocturnal emission, also known as a wet dream, is when a male experiences an orgasm during sleep, typically accompanied by ejaculation. Wet dreams usually begin after a male goes through puberty and can mark the first experience of orgasm for many young men. If they have not been educated about sex, they might not understand what has happened to them.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Nocturnal emissions are called wet dreams due to the dampness caused by ejaculation and because the orgasm and ejaculation often occur during a sexually exciting dream. However, most sexual dreams do not result in orgasms. The exact cause of nocturnal emissions is not fully understood by scientists.

Significance[edit | edit source]

Wet dreams are a natural and harmless part of male development. They do not indicate that anything is wrong with an individual. Many men may stop experiencing wet dreams if they masturbate frequently or once they begin having regular sexual intercourse.

Frequency[edit | edit source]

The frequency of nocturnal emissions varies among individuals. Some may experience them only occasionally, while others may have them more frequently. The frequency of wet dreams tends to decrease with age, as sexual experiences and other factors come into play.

Coping and communication[edit | edit source]

It is important for young men to understand that nocturnal emissions are a normal part of growing up and that they should not be ashamed or embarrassed by them. Open communication about wet dreams and other sexual topics with a trusted adult or healthcare professional can help alleviate any concerns or misunderstandings.

If you urinate while asleep, this is called wetting the bed, not a wet dream.
