- Stanley was incorporated as a city in 1894. It was named after Stanley E. Warren, a lumberman who helped establish the town. The city has a rich history that is deeply rooted in the lumber industry.

- Stanley is located at 44°57′35″N 90°56′15″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.54 square miles, all of it land.

- As of the census of 2010, there were 3,608 people, 1,476 households, and 897 families residing in the city. The population density was 551.7 inhabitants per square mile.
