Suffolk Gold cheese
Suffolk Gold is a type of cheese produced in the United Kingdom. It is a semi-hard cheese made from the milk of Guernsey cows, and is known for its creamy, buttery flavor and golden color.
History[edit | edit source]
Suffolk Gold was first produced in the 1980s by the Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses company, a family-run business based in Suffolk, England. The company was founded by Jason and Katharine Salisbury, who were inspired by the rich dairy farming heritage of the region.
Production[edit | edit source]
The production of Suffolk Gold begins with the milking of Guernsey cows, a breed known for the high butterfat content of their milk. The milk is then pasteurized and combined with a starter culture and rennet, which causes the milk to coagulate and form curds. The curds are cut, stirred, and heated before being placed into molds and pressed to remove whey. The cheese is then aged for a period of time to develop its flavor.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Suffolk Gold is a semi-hard cheese with a creamy, buttery flavor. It has a golden color, which is a characteristic of the milk of Guernsey cows. The cheese has a smooth texture and a mild, slightly sweet taste. It is often used in cooking, as it melts well and adds a rich, creamy flavor to dishes.
