Sundanese people are an ethnic group native to the western part of the Indonesian island of Java. They are the second largest ethnic group in Indonesia, comprising approximately 15.5% of the country's population. The Sundanese are known for their distinct language, culture, and history, which have significantly influenced the broader Indonesian society.

The history of the Sundanese people dates back to the 2nd century, as evidenced by archaeological findings and historical records. The Sundanese had established several significant kingdoms, including the Tarumanagara, Sunda Kingdom, and Galuh Kingdom. The Sundanese language is the mother tongue of the Sundanese people. It is the second most spoken language in Indonesia and is recognized as a regional language by the Indonesian government. The language has several dialects, reflecting the diverse geography of West Java.

The culture of the Sundanese people is rich and diverse, encompassing various forms of music, dance, and art. The angklung, a traditional Sundanese musical instrument made of bamboo, is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The Sundanese are also known for their traditional dance forms, such as Jaipongan and Pencak Silat, a martial art form.

Sundanese cuisine is renowned for its freshness and distinct flavors. It heavily relies on vegetables, herbs, and spices, with rice as the staple food. Some of the popular Sundanese dishes include Nasi Timbel (rice wrapped in banana leaf), Soto Bandung (beef and radish soup), and Karedok (raw vegetable salad in peanut sauce).

The majority of Sundanese people practice Islam, with a significant minority adhering to Christianity, Hinduism, and traditional Sundanese beliefs known as Sunda Wiwitan.
