Sustainable design
Sustainable design, also known as environmental design, eco-design, or green design, is a philosophy of designing physical objects, the built environment, and services to comply with the principles of sustainability. The ultimate goal of sustainable design is to reduce or completely avoid depletion of critical resources like energy, water, and raw materials and to prevent environmental degradation caused by facilities and infrastructure throughout their life cycle.
Principles of Sustainable Design[edit | edit source]
Sustainable design is based on several core principles that guide the development and implementation of environmentally friendly technologies and solutions. These include:
- Energy Efficiency: Minimizing energy consumption and harnessing renewable energy sources.

While sustainable design offers numerous benefits, it also faces challenges such as higher upfront costs, lack of awareness, and regulatory hurdles. However, with increasing environmental awareness and technological advancements, sustainable design is becoming more prevalent and accessible. Future directions may include further integration of technology such as Internet of Things (IoT) for smarter energy management, advancements in sustainable materials, and more stringent sustainability standards.
