Swami Satchidananda Saraswati
Swami Satchidananda Saraswati (22 December 1914 – 19 August 2002) was an Indian spiritual leader, yoga master, and founder of the Integral Yoga movement. He is best known for his teachings on the integration of physical, mental, and spiritual practices to achieve a balanced and harmonious life.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Swami Satchidananda was born as C. K. Ramaswamy Gounder in Chettipalayam, Tamil Nadu, India. He was drawn to spiritual practices from a young age and studied under several spiritual teachers, including Swami Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh.
Integral Yoga[edit | edit source]
Swami Satchidananda founded the Integral Yoga Institute in 1966 in New York City. Integral Yoga is a synthesis of various branches of yoga, including Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Japa Yoga. The goal of Integral Yoga is to promote physical health, mental clarity, and spiritual growth.
Teachings and Philosophy[edit | edit source]
Swami Satchidananda's teachings emphasize the importance of living a life of peace, self-discipline, and service to others. He believed that true happiness comes from within and that spiritual practices can help individuals achieve a state of inner peace and contentment. His philosophy is encapsulated in the motto, "Truth is One, Paths are Many."

Swami Satchidananda was a pioneer in bringing yoga to the West. He opened several Integral Yoga Institutes and centers around the world, including the Yogaville community in Virginia, USA. He also authored numerous books on yoga and spirituality, including "The Living Gita" and "To Know Your Self."

Swami Satchidananda's legacy continues through the work of the Integral Yoga Institutes and the many students and teachers he inspired. His teachings have had a lasting impact on the global yoga community and continue to guide individuals on their spiritual journeys.
