Tamil Nadu is a state located in the southern part of India. It is bordered by the states of Karnataka to the northwest, Kerala to the west, and Andhra Pradesh to the north. To its east lies the Bay of Bengal. Tamil Nadu has a rich cultural heritage and is known for its contributions to music, dance, and literature in India.

Tamil Nadu's geography is diverse, encompassing the world-renowned beaches of the Coromandel Coast, the fertile plains of the Cauvery Delta, and the mountainous regions of the Western Ghats and the Nilgiri Hills. The state has a number of rivers, with the Cauvery River being the most significant as it is a crucial source of irrigation and potable water.

The history of Tamil Nadu dates back to over 2,000 years with its early mention in Sangam literature. The Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the Chola dynasty.

Tamil Nadu is renowned for its vibrant culture which includes traditional music, dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, and a distinct cuisine. The government of Tamil Nadu operates under a parliamentary system. It has a unicameral legislature with the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly being the legislative body. The politics of Tamil Nadu have been dominated by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for several decades.

Tamil Nadu faces several environmental challenges, including water scarcity, pollution, and the effects of climate change. Efforts are being made to address these issues through sustainable practices and the promotion of renewable energy sources.
