Tenom
Tenom is a district located in the Interior Division of Sabah, Malaysia. It is situated in the southwestern part of Sabah and is well-known for its agricultural activities, particularly the production of coffee.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Tenom covers an area of approximately 2,032 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Keningau district to the north, the Nabawan district to the east, and the state of Sarawak to the west. The Padas River runs through the district, providing a vital water source for the local agriculture industry.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Tenom is primarily based on agriculture. The district is one of the main producers of coffee in Malaysia, with the Tenom coffee variety being particularly well-known. Other agricultural products include rice, rubber, and palm oil. In recent years, tourism has also become an important part of the local economy, with attractions such as the Sabah Agricultural Park and the Murut Cultural Centre drawing visitors from around the world.

The majority of the population in Tenom are of the Murut ethnicity, one of the indigenous groups in Sabah. The Murut are known for their rich cultural heritage, including traditional music, dance, and handicrafts. Transportation[edit | edit source]
Tenom is accessible by road and also has a railway station, which is part of the Sabah State Railway. The railway provides a scenic route through the Padas River valley, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

There are several primary and secondary schools in Tenom, providing education for the local population. The district also has a campus of the Open University Malaysia, offering higher education opportunities.
