Terry's Chocolate Orange[edit | edit source]

Terry's Chocolate Orange is a popular British chocolate product, produced by Mondelez International. It was first created by Terry's of York, a long-established English confectionery manufacturer, in 1932. The chocolate orange combines the classic flavours of chocolate and orange in a unique ball-shaped format, which is divided into 20 individual segments, each flavoured with real orange oil.

History[edit | edit source]

The Terry's company was founded in 1767 by Robert Berry and William Bayldon in York, England. The company was originally named Bayldon and Berry Confectionery. The name was changed to Terry's of York in 1823 when Joseph Terry became a partner. The Chocolate Orange was introduced in 1932 and quickly became one of the company's most popular products.

In 1993, Terry's was taken over by Kraft Foods, which later became Mondelez International. Despite changes in ownership, the Terry's Chocolate Orange has remained a beloved treat in the UK and around the world.

Product Description[edit | edit source]

The Terry's Chocolate Orange consists of a ball of chocolate mixed with orange oil, divided into 20 segments, similar to a real orange. The product is often associated with Christmas, due to its stocking-filler size and festive flavour.

The chocolate orange comes in a variety of flavours, including the original milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and various limited edition flavours such as toffee and mint. Each flavour offers a unique twist on the classic Terry's Chocolate Orange.

Popularity[edit | edit source]

Terry's Chocolate Orange has a strong cultural presence in the UK. It is often referenced in British media and has been featured in various television shows and films. The product's distinctive shape and packaging, as well as its association with Christmas, have contributed to its popularity.
