Tipped Uterus

A Tipped uterus, also known as a retroverted uterus or tilted uterus, is a condition where the uterus tilts back towards the rectum. It is a normal anatomical variation that affects approximately 20% of all women.

Causes[edit | edit source]

The exact cause of a tipped uterus is unknown, but it is believed to be genetic. Some women are born with a tipped uterus, while others develop the condition after childbirth or due to conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

Most women with a tipped uterus do not experience any symptoms. However, some may experience pain during sexual intercourse, back pain during menstruation, and difficulty inserting tampons. In rare cases, a tipped uterus can cause problems with fertility.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

A tipped uterus can be diagnosed through a routine pelvic exam. If the condition is suspected, a doctor may perform an ultrasound or MRI to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for a tipped uterus is usually not necessary unless the condition is causing symptoms. If treatment is needed, options may include physical therapy, a pessary device, or surgery.
