Todd English is a renowned American chef, restaurateur, author, and television personality. He is best known for his television cooking show, Food Trip with Todd English, and his chain of restaurants across the United States and abroad.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Todd English was born on August 29, 1960, in Amarillo, Texas. He developed an interest in cooking at a young age. After high school, he attended the Culinary Institute of America and graduated in 1982.

Career[edit | edit source]

After graduating, English began his culinary career at the prestigious La Cote Basque in New York. He later moved to Italy to learn more about Mediterranean cuisine. Upon his return to the United States, he opened his first restaurant, Olives, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1989. The restaurant was named after his then-wife, Olivia.

English has since opened several other restaurants, including Figs, BlueZoo, and Tuscany. He also launched a line of cookware and lifestyle products, which are sold on HSN.

In addition to his restaurant ventures, English has authored several cookbooks, including The Olives Table, The Figs Table, and Cooking in Everyday English. He has also hosted the PBS travel and cooking series, Food Trip with Todd English.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

English has been married twice and has three children. He is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly his work with Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending child hunger in the United States.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Throughout his career, English has received numerous awards and accolades. He was named one of the "Best New Chefs" by Food & Wine Magazine in 1991, and his restaurant, Olives, was named "Best New Restaurant" by Bon Appetit magazine in the same year. In 2001, English was inducted into the James Beard Foundation's "Who's Who of Food and Beverage in America".
