Trans-3-Methyl-2-hexenoic acid can be synthesized through the oxidation of the corresponding alcohol using oxidizing agents such as chromic acid. It can also be prepared by the hydrolysis of the corresponding ester.

This compound is used in the food industry as a flavoring agent due to its characteristic odor. It is commonly employed in the production of fruit flavors and fragrances.
