Plot[edit | edit source]

The film tells the story of an ordinary garden snail named Turbo who dreams of speed. After a freak accident infuses him with the power of super-speed, Turbo kicks his dreaming into overdrive and embarks on an extraordinary journey to achieve the seemingly impossible: competing in the world's fastest race, the Indianapolis 500. With the help of his tricked-out streetwise snail crew, Turbo attempts to overcome his own limitations and the disdain of the racing elite to achieve the impossible and inspire the world.

Production[edit | edit source]

The concept of Turbo was conceived by David Soren, who was inspired by his six-year-old son's fascination with race cars and the predicament of slow garden snails. The film was produced by DreamWorks Animation, known for other successful animation franchises like Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda. The film's score was composed by Henry Jackman, and the film's soundtrack includes original songs by Snoop Dogg, Run–D.M.C., and Pitbull.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Upon its release, Turbo received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its animation, humor, and voice performances. It was also a commercial success, grossing over $280 million worldwide against its $127 million budget.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Following the film's success, a television series spin-off titled Turbo FAST was released on Netflix in December 2013, making it the first Netflix original series for children.
