The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a renowned public research university located in San Francisco, California. It is part of the University of California system and is dedicated exclusively to health sciences. UCSF was founded in 1864 as Toland Medical College by South Carolina surgeon Hugh Toland. In 1873, it became affiliated with the University of California, and the medical school was moved to the Parnassus Heights campus in San Francisco. Over the years, UCSF has expanded to include schools of dentistry, nursing, and pharmacy, as well as a graduate division for biomedical sciences.
