Undead Labs
Undead Labs is an American video game development company based in Seattle, Washington. The company was founded in 2009 by Jeff Strain, a former lead programmer for Blizzard Entertainment and one of the co-founders of ArenaNet. Undead Labs is best known for developing the State of Decay series.
History[edit | edit source]
Undead Labs was established with the goal of creating a new type of zombie game that combined elements of survival horror, role-playing, and open world gameplay. The company's first project, State of Decay, was announced in 2011 and released for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows in 2013. The game received positive reviews for its innovative gameplay mechanics and was a commercial success, selling over a million copies within a few months of its release.
Following the success of State of Decay, Undead Labs continued to expand its team and began working on a sequel. State of Decay 2 was released in 2018 for the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. The sequel introduced multiplayer gameplay and improved graphics, further solidifying the franchise's popularity.
In 2018, Undead Labs was acquired by Microsoft Studios, now known as Xbox Game Studios. This acquisition allowed the company to leverage additional resources and support from Microsoft, enabling them to focus on developing new content and expanding the State of Decay universe.
