Universal Music Group (UMG) is an American global music corporation that is a subsidiary of the French media conglomerate Vivendi. UMG is considered one of the "Big Three" record labels, along with Sony Music and Warner Music Group. The company operates in more than 60 countries and has a diverse portfolio of music labels, including Interscope Records, Capitol Records, Def Jam Recordings, and Island Records.

Universal Music Group's origins can be traced back to the formation of the Decca Records label in 1934. Over the decades, the company underwent several mergers and acquisitions, eventually becoming part of the MCA Inc. conglomerate. In 1996, Seagram acquired MCA and rebranded it as Universal Studios, which included Universal Music Group. In 2000, Vivendi acquired Seagram's entertainment assets, including UMG.
