Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer and songwriter. She first gained public attention in 2015 with her debut single "Ocean Eyes", which was subsequently released by the Interscope subsidiary Darkroom. The song was written and produced by her brother, Finneas, with whom she collaborates on music and live shows.

Billie Eilish was born in Los Angeles, California, to actress and screenwriter Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O'Connell. She is of Irish and Scottish descent. Eilish was homeschooled and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight. She began writing songs at age 11, taking after her older brother Finneas, who was already performing and writing his own songs with his band.

2015–2017: Don't Smile at Me[edit | edit source]

In 2015, Eilish recorded the song "Ocean Eyes", written and produced by Finneas, and released it on SoundCloud. The song went viral, leading to a record deal with Interscope Records. Her debut EP, Don't Smile at Me, was released in August 2017. The EP included the singles "Bellyache", "Idontwannabeyouanymore", and "My Boy".

2018–2019: When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?[edit | edit source]

Eilish's debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, was released on March 29, 2019. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200, making Eilish the first artist born in the 2000s to have a number-one album in the United States. The album's fifth single, "Bad Guy", became her first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2020, Eilish released the single "My Future", followed by "Therefore I Am". Her second studio album, Happier Than Ever, was released on July 30, 2021. The album received critical acclaim and debuted at number one in 25 countries.
