Vasilis Kikilias
Vasilis Kikilias (Greek: Βασίλης Κικίλιας) is a Greek politician and former professional basketball player. He is a member of the New Democracy party and has held various governmental positions in Greece.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Vasilis Kikilias was born on June 15, 1974, in Athens, Greece. He studied at the University of Athens, where he earned a degree in Medicine. He later specialized in Orthopedic Surgery.
Basketball Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Kikilias had a successful career as a professional basketball player. He played for several teams in the Greek Basket League, including Panionios and AEK Athens. He was known for his defensive skills and leadership on the court.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Kikilias entered politics with the New Democracy party. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the 2007 Greek legislative election. Over the years, he has held various positions within the government.
Minister of Health[edit | edit source]
In July 2019, Kikilias was appointed as the Minister of Health in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During his tenure, he played a significant role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece.
Minister of Tourism[edit | edit source]
In August 2021, Kikilias was appointed as the Minister of Tourism. In this role, he has focused on revitalizing the Greek tourism industry, which is a crucial sector for the country's economy.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Vasilis Kikilias is married to Tzeni Balatsinou, a well-known Greek television presenter and former model. The couple has one child.
