History[edit | edit source]

Vyera Pharmaceuticals, originally known as Turing Pharmaceuticals, was founded by Martin Shkreli in 2015. Vyera Pharmaceuticals' most well-known product is Daraprim, a medication used to treat toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that can cause life-threatening complications in people with weakened immune systems. In 2015, the company sparked controversy when it increased the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

The company has also been accused of anti-competitive practices, including preventing generic versions of Daraprim from entering the market.
