Walter Butler Cheadle (1835–1910) was an English physician and explorer known for his contributions to medicine and his adventurous journey across Canada with William Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton.

Cheadle became a prominent physician, specializing in pediatrics. He was associated with several prestigious medical institutions, including St Mary's Hospital, London, where he served as a physician. Exploration of Canada[edit | edit source]

In 1862, Cheadle embarked on an adventurous expedition across Canada with William Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton. The journey, which lasted until 1864, was a significant undertaking during that period. The duo traveled from British Columbia to Lake Superior, documenting their experiences and the challenges they faced. Their journey was later chronicled in the book The North-West Passage by Land, which provided valuable insights into the geography and indigenous cultures of Canada.

After his exploration, Cheadle continued his medical practice and contributed to various medical journals. He was a member of several medical societies and was recognized for his work in pediatrics.
