The white trevally is a powerful, predatory fish, with a streamlined, elongated body and a pointed snout. The species is easily identified by its steep head profile, strong tail scutes, and a small, single dorsal fin. The color of the fish is a silvery white, often with a blue or greenish tinge on the back.
Distribution and Habitat[edit | edit source]
White trevally are found throughout the tropical and temperate waters of the world, with a distribution range that extends from the East Atlantic, throughout the Mediterranean, to the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. They are typically found in coastal waters, including bays and harbors, and are known to enter estuaries and rivers.
Diet and Behavior[edit | edit source]
White trevally are carnivorous, feeding on a diet of smaller fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods. They are known for their aggressive hunting behavior, often chasing their prey at high speeds and using their strong jaws to capture and crush their food.
Fishing[edit | edit source]
White trevally are a popular target for both recreational and commercial fisheries. They are prized for their fighting ability and are considered a high-quality table fish. The species is caught using a variety of methods, including line fishing, net fishing, and spearfishing.
Conservation[edit | edit source]
While the white trevally is not currently listed as threatened or endangered, concerns have been raised about the impact of overfishing on some populations. Fisheries management measures, including size and bag limits, have been implemented in some regions to ensure the sustainability of the species.
