William Cutolo
William Cutolo (June 6, 1949 – May 26, 1999), also known as "Billy Fingers" and "Wild Bill," was an American mobster in the Colombo crime family of New York City. He was a prominent figure in the Mafia and held the position of underboss in the Colombo family.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
William Cutolo was born in Brooklyn, New York City, on June 6, 1949. He grew up in a neighborhood known for its strong Mafia presence and became involved in organized crime at a young age.
Criminal Career[edit | edit source]
Cutolo quickly rose through the ranks of the Colombo crime family. He was known for his violent tendencies and was involved in various criminal activities, including extortion, loan sharking, and racketeering. His nickname "Billy Fingers" was derived from his reputation for using his hands in violent confrontations.
Colombo Family Feud[edit | edit source]
During the early 1990s, the Colombo crime family was embroiled in a violent internal conflict known as the Colombo family war. Cutolo initially sided with the faction led by Victor Orena against the faction loyal to Carmine Persico. However, as the war progressed, Cutolo switched allegiances and supported Persico's faction.
Underboss[edit | edit source]
In the late 1990s, Cutolo was appointed underboss of the Colombo family by Alphonse Persico, the acting boss and son of Carmine Persico. As underboss, Cutolo was responsible for overseeing the family's criminal operations and maintaining order within the organization.
Disappearance and Death[edit | edit source]
On May 26, 1999, William Cutolo disappeared under mysterious circumstances. It is widely believed that he was murdered on the orders of Alphonse Persico, who saw Cutolo as a threat to his leadership. Cutolo's body was not discovered until October 2008, when it was found buried in a field in Farmingdale, New York.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
William Cutolo's death marked the end of a significant chapter in the history of the Colombo crime family. His murder was part of a broader pattern of violence and betrayal that characterized the Mafia during this period.
