Wilson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 147,737. Its county seat is Lebanon. The county is named for David Wilson, a state legislator.
History[edit | edit source]
Wilson County was created on October 26, 1799, from a portion of Sumner County. It was named in honor of David Wilson, a Revolutionary War veteran and early settler of the area. The county has a rich history, with many historic sites and buildings, including the Cedar Grove Cemetery and the Fiddlers Grove Historic Village.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 583 square miles (1,510 km²), of which 571 square miles (1,480 km²) is land and 12 square miles (31 km²) (2.1%) is water. The county is part of the Nashville Metropolitan Area.

As of the 2020 census, there were 147,737 people, 54,266 households, and 40,123 families residing in the county. The population density was 258 people per square mile (100/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 85.6% White, 8.1% Black or African American, 1.5% Asian, and 4.8% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.

Wilson County is served by the Wilson County School District, which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to Cumberland University, a private university located in Lebanon.
