Zometa
Zometa (ZOH-meh-tuh) is a prescription drug that is prescribed to treat hypercalcemia - a medical condition where the blood levels of calcium are elevated, usually caused by cancer.
Multiple myeloma[edit | edit source]
It is also used with other anticancer drugs to treat multiple myeloma.
Bone metastasis[edit | edit source]
Zometa is also used when cancers have spread to the bone.
Studied in other cancers[edit | edit source]
It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer.
Mechanism of action[edit | edit source]
Zometa may help keep bone from breaking down and prevent the loss of calcium from the bones.
Classification[edit | edit source]
It is a type of bisphosphonate.
Other names[edit | edit source]
Also called zoledronate and zoledronic acid.
