17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone
17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone (also known as Nandrolone allyl ester) is a synthetic anabolic steroid that is derived from testosterone. It is a modified form of nandrolone, where an allyl group is added at the 17α position. This modification enhances the anabolic activity of the steroid and reduces its androgenic effects.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone is a steroid and a derivative of testosterone. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as anabolic steroids. These are synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones (androgens). They function to promote growth and repair of body tissues.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacological action of 17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone is similar to that of other anabolic steroids. It promotes the growth of muscle tissue and increases the production of red blood cells. However, due to its reduced androgenic effects, it has a lower risk of causing unwanted side effects such as acne, hair loss, and prostate enlargement.
Medical Use[edit | edit source]
While 17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone is not currently approved for medical use, research suggests that it could potentially be used in the treatment of conditions such as muscle wasting diseases, anemia, and osteoporosis. However, more research is needed to confirm its safety and efficacy.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
As with other anabolic steroids, the use of 17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone can lead to a number of side effects. These may include liver damage, cardiovascular problems, changes in mood and behavior, and suppression of natural testosterone production.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
In many countries, the use, possession, and sale of anabolic steroids like 17α-Allyl-19-nortestosterone are regulated by law. In the United States, for example, they are classified as Schedule III controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act.
