3'-Hydroxy-THC

3'-Hydroxy-THC is a metabolite of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It is produced in the body after consumption of THC, through the process of metabolism.

Metabolism of THC[edit | edit source]

When THC is consumed, it is metabolized by the body into several different compounds, one of which is 3'-Hydroxy-THC. This process is primarily carried out in the liver, by enzymes known as cytochrome P450 enzymes. These enzymes oxidize THC, adding a hydroxy group to the 3' position of the molecule to form 3'-Hydroxy-THC.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

3'-Hydroxy-THC is an active metabolite, meaning it has its own psychoactive effects. It is believed to contribute to the overall effects of cannabis, although its specific role is not fully understood. Some research suggests that it may have a longer half-life than THC itself, meaning its effects could last longer.

Detection[edit | edit source]

3'-Hydroxy-THC can be detected in the body after consumption of THC. It is often measured in urine drug tests for cannabis, as it can be detected for a longer period of time than THC itself. However, the presence of 3'-Hydroxy-THC does not necessarily indicate recent use of cannabis, as it can remain in the body for several days or even weeks after consumption.
