5,6-MDO-DMT
5,6-MDO-DMT is a lesser-known psychedelic compound. It is a dimethyltryptamine derivative and has been found to have psychoactive properties.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
5,6-MDO-DMT, or 5,6-Methylenedioxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a synthetic compound of the tryptamine class. Tryptamines share a core structure comprised of a bicylic indole heterocycle attached at R3 to an amino group via an ethyl side chain. 5,6-MDO-DMT is substituted at R5 and R6 of its indole heterocycle with two methylenedioxy groups CH2O2. It is also substituted at R1 of its structure with a dimethylamine group.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
The pharmacology of 5,6-MDO-DMT is not well-studied. However, it is known to act as a serotonin receptor agonist. The compound's psychoactive effects are believed to come from its efficacy at the 5-HT2A receptor. However, the role of these interactions and how they result in the psychedelic experience continues to remain an object of scientific elucidation.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of 5,6-MDO-DMT are not well-documented due to its status as a research chemical. However, anecdotal reports suggest that it may induce states of psychedelic experiences similar to other tryptamine-based psychedelics. These effects may include open and closed eye visuals, time distortion, enhanced introspection, and ego loss.
Legality[edit | edit source]
The legality of 5,6-MDO-DMT varies by country. In many jurisdictions, it is considered a controlled substance, making its possession, distribution, or manufacture illegal.
