ABC stores
ABC Stores is a chain of convenience stores based in Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded by Sidney Kosasa in 1964, the company has grown to operate more than 70 stores throughout the United States, Guam, and Saipan. The stores primarily sell general merchandise and are known for their wide selection of local Hawaiian products.
History[edit | edit source]
Sidney Kosasa, a pharmacist by trade, opened the first ABC Store in Waikiki in 1964. The name "ABC" was chosen because it was easy to remember and would be listed first in the phone book. The company's business model was to provide a convenient shopping experience for tourists in Waikiki.
Over the years, ABC Stores expanded its operations to other tourist destinations in Hawaii, including Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. The company also expanded to other locations in the United States and the Pacific, including Las Vegas, Nevada, Guam, and Saipan.
Products and Services[edit | edit source]
ABC Stores offer a wide range of products, including general merchandise, groceries, and local Hawaiian products. The stores are known for their selection of Hawaiian shirts, ukuleles, Hawaiian jewelry, and local food products like macadamia nuts and Kona coffee.
In addition to retail products, ABC Stores also offer services such as Western Union money transfers and prepaid phone cards.
Business Model[edit | edit source]
ABC Stores operate on a convenience store model, with a focus on serving tourists. The stores are typically located in high-traffic tourist areas and are open late into the night. The company's strategy is to provide a convenient shopping experience for tourists, with a wide selection of products that cater to their needs and interests.
