Abington Township is a township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is one of the oldest communities in Montgomery County, dating back to the early 1700s. The township is a part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Abington Township was incorporated in 1704, making it one of the oldest townships in Pennsylvania. The area was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans before European settlers arrived. The township played a role in the American Revolutionary War, with several skirmishes occurring in the area.

Abington Township is located in southeastern Montgomery County and is bordered by Philadelphia to the south. The township covers a total area of 15.5 square miles, of which 15.4 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The township is characterized by its suburban residential neighborhoods, parks, and commercial areas.

As of the 2020 census, Abington Township had a population of 58,626. The township is known for its diverse population and strong community engagement. The population density is approximately 3,807.5 people per square mile.
