Ameloblastic fibroma
(Redirected from Ameloblastic fibrosarcoma)
Ameloblastic fibroma is a rare, benign tumor of the oral cavity. It is a mixed odontogenic tumor, meaning it arises from the tissues that form teeth. This tumor is most commonly found in the posterior mandible, or lower jaw.
Signs and Symptoms[edit | edit source]
Patients with ameloblastic fibroma often present with painless swelling of the affected area. Other symptoms may include delayed tooth eruption, displacement of teeth, and malocclusion, or misalignment of the teeth when the jaws are closed.
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Diagnosis of ameloblastic fibroma is typically made through a combination of clinical examination, imaging studies such as X-rays or CT scans, and histopathological examination of a biopsy specimen. The tumor is characterized by the presence of both epithelial and mesenchymal tissues, with the epithelial component resembling the cells of the enamel organ and the mesenchymal component resembling dental pulp.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment of ameloblastic fibroma typically involves surgical removal of the tumor. In some cases, additional treatments such as radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be necessary.
Prognosis[edit | edit source]
The prognosis for patients with ameloblastic fibroma is generally good, as the tumor is benign and does not typically spread to other parts of the body. However, recurrence is possible, particularly if the tumor is not completely removed during surgery.
