The American Association of Physician of Indian Origin (AAPI) is a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit organization founded in 1982, with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

  • American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin represents the values and interests of more than 80,000 practicing physicians in the United States.
  • AAPI serves as a platform for more than 40,000 medical students, residents, and fellows of Indian origin in this country.

AAPI YPS/MSRF[edit | edit source]

  • The AAPI YPS/MSRF (Young Physicians Section/Medical Students, Residents and Fellows Section) is part of AAPI and their participation and contributions in the AAPI leadership and field of medicine is highly valued.

  • AAPI also has a Charitable Foundation (AAPI-CF) that supports free clinics and health fairs in India with about 17 clinics are active in various states of India under the AAPI partnership.

  • Every year, this conglomeration of physicians and physicians in the making get together for a grand Annual AAPI Convention.

Sub-chapters and Regional Chapters[edit | edit source]

AAPI has the following regional chapters each of which has many sub-chapters that are supportive of the regional chapters. In addition, most specialties have their own sub-chapters which are not region specific but specialty specific.

Specialty sub-chapters and Alumni Associations[edit | edit source]

AAPI is an umbrella organization which has over 150 local chapters, specialty societies and alumni organizations.

  • According to the website of AAPI, the organization AAPI is a forum to facilitate and enable Indian American Physicians to excel in patient care, teaching and research and to pursue their aspirations in professional and community affairs.

  • Promote professional solidarity in the pursuit of excellence in patient care, teaching and research. Bring American medicine the distinctive contributions from India, and advance the American creed of one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.
